Exchange Running out of Disk Space with Logs

If users cannot send or receive mails due to low disk space on your Exchange Server, you will need to enable circular logging, which will clear out all the transaction logs from the Exchange server and saves you a lot of space, which will allow all users to send and receive mails. To do this, follow the steps below:

Exchange 2013

  1. In the EAC (Exchange Administrative Console) go to Servers > Database
  2. Choose the database to clear the log files
  3. Check Enable Circular Logging checkbox
  4. Click Save

Exchange 2010

  1. Launch Exchange server MMC
  2. Expand Organisation Configuration and click on Mailbox
  3. Click on the Database Management. You will see a list of databases
  4. Right Click on a database and click on properties
  5. Click on Maintenance Tab
  6. Check Enable Circular Logging checkbox

You can use the Power Shell command to achieve this goal

  1. Launch Exchange Power Shell and wait for Power Shell to Load
  2. Type the following command: Get-MailboxDatabase to list the entire mailbox database
  3. Type the following commandSet-MailboxDatabase “DatabaseName” –CircularLoggingEnabled:$True

The power shell command applies to both Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 servers. Once you have enabled Circular logging, the transaction logs immediately remove and you will see free space on your Disk.
